“The world is full of hopeful analogies and handsome, dubious eggs, called possibilities.” – George Eliot

San Francisco’s 11th Annual Dine About Town is going on now until the end of the month.  It’s a chance to enjoy a schmancy 2-course prix fixe lunch for $17.95 or a 3-course dinner for $34.95 per person.

We decided to try Luce (pronounced loo-chay, the Italian word for light) which is a wine restaurant co-owned by Mondavi.

Slow Cooked Beef Cheeks
Crispy Potato, Horseradish, Kale “Salsa”

Warm Salad of Crispy Sweetbreads
Speck Ham, Quail Egg

I especially enjoyed the quail egg.  I love the versatility of eggs.  How many other foods can you poach, scramble, shirr, baste, or sunny-side up?

It’s a simple yet flavorful food that doesn’t look out of place on the fanciest of plates. It’s also a cheap and easy way to upgrade a basic meal.

Ramen Bowl
Fish cake, dumplings, and boiled egg
